VIRTUAL
SHOWCASES

HBS Alumni Angels syndicates selected deals across the full global membership of its 14 chapters. This enables selected deals from one chapter to reach a global network of accredited investor alumni. This is a unique benefit of being a member in a local HBS Alumni Angel chapter. Investment decisions are made and executed individually following a global webinar. Once investments are made, investors often assist companies in other areas as formal or informal advisers.

1. HOST CHAPTER

A company must meet a threshold of member investment in one of our HBS Alumni Angel Chapters listed here. The leadership of the host chapter nominates the company for global syndication and provides a local member contact to act as syndication lead and a company contact.

CRITERIA

Ideally, for global syndication, a company should meet the following requirements:

  • Local host chapter members committed to invest at least $50,000* and local chapter forwards deal to global for syndication;

  • Company assures at least $50,000-100,000 investible capacity;

  • Company provides at least 2 weeks for due diligence following the webinar, prior to requiring an investment decision;

  • Minimum individual investment amount is set at $25,000 or less;

  • Company agrees to a one-time admin fee of $1500.

The Global Syndication Committee selects the most suitable company candidates from the 15 participating HBSAA chapters and is aiming to host monthly webinars.

*NY and other larger chapters may have a $100,000 min.

HBS ALUMNI ANGELS VIRTUAL SHOWCASE:
ACTUATED MEDICAL - NEURALGLIDER

Thursday, June 4, 2026 9am PT, 12pm ET, 5pm London, 6pm Continental Europe

Presenter:
President & CEO, Maureen Mulvihill

On behalf of the Boston chapter, we would like to share the following showcase company:

Actuated Medical

Transformative Tools for Brain Access & Deep Brain Therapy Delivery To Treat Debilitating Neurological Conditions

Company Summary: Actuated Medical

Since 2006, Actuated Medical has been dedicated to improving patient outcomes by integrating motion into medical devices. Developed with $18M in non-dilutive funding, our NeuralGlider® technology uses gentle oscillation for less invasive brain implant insertion and targeted drug delivery. We’re tapping into multi-billion-dollar neurological disease treatment markets – including treatment-resistant addiction, depression and Parkinson’s Disease. Our NeuralGlider Inserter inserts brain implants with greater precision and less tissue damage to improve implant performance and longevity. The NeuralGlider Injector enables targeted drug delivery deep into the brain with finer, less invasive needles to minimize tissue trauma and medication loss – including brain cancer treatment, AAV-gene therapy infusion, and addiction treatments. 44+ third-party publications citing NeuralGlider are strengthening the scientific foundation to transition to clinical indications. Our first clinical goal is to improve deep brain stimulation (DBS) probe insertion, reducing clinician variability and the need for revision surgeries, demonstrated initially in Parkinson’s patients.

First Market, Proving Ground

10M+ People globally have treatment resistant neurological conditions, such as Parkinson’s Disease, epilepsy, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and depression that are candidates for DBS treatments.
DBS can give them their lives back, when other treatments fail.

Complex tissue dynamics result from the many different tissue layers in the brain that the probe transverses. Therefore, as DBS probes are inserted, 3-8% of the time the probe tip misses the target (~1 in 20 patients), or shifts after the tip is put in place, leading to off target effects, sub-optimal treatment, or potentially a costly second brain surgery.

Solution

NeuralGlider uses patented gentle oscillating technology and a coupling mechanism to insert brain implants precisely with less force and damage to tissue. Preclinical studies have shown the ability to hit small targets in the brain more accurately, resulting in improved implant performance and outcomes.

Actuated Medical’s $10M Series A will accelerate its global leadership in brain access and deep‑brain therapy delivery. The company has a clear 5‑year exit plan focused on achieving FDA 510(k) regulatory clearance, key clinical milestones, and licensing events that position the company for acquisition by a neural strategic within 5–6 years. The financing strategy is designed to minimize dilution: revenue from profitable NeuralGlider research sales plus the planned divestiture of two non‑core FDA‑cleared assets will be reinvested to fund growth and reduce the need for future rounds. Backed by 45 issued U.S. and international patents, 9 FDA 510(k) clearances, and eight clinical studies, Actuated has the IP, regulatory track record, and clinical experience to execute the plan and drive value for their investor.

NeuralGlider Traction:

  • Several human studies that will use NeuralGlider as the brain access device are planned for 2026–2027 | Researchers at Harvard/MGH have pending study using NeuralGlider to insert next generation probes into human excised tissue, and then human patients to study brain function

  • UMass Pediatric Neurosurgeon enthusiastic about improving targeting of AAV-Gene Therapy Infusion and insertion of SEEG probes for epilepsy mapping.

  • Strong engagement using NeuralGlider to deliver therapeutics directly to glioblastoma, a brain cancer with ~13,000 US diagnoses annually and a 5–10% survival rate.

  • Three next-generation brain computer interface (BCI) groups are actively engaging and moving forward with (research) NeuralGlider purchases to improve BCI insertion.

  • The single-use clinical NeuralGlider tool is anticipated as an FDA 510(k) clearance.
